The brain consists of billions of neurons and these neurons communicate with each other via electrical impulses. This activity is commonly described as a brainwave because it rises and falls like a wave.

When we observe the brain with an EEG (electroencephalograph) we can record the dominate brainwave frequency and how it relates to different states of consciousness. Our brainwaves can be divided into 5 categories: Delta, Theta, Alpha, Beta and Gamma.

Unconscious Mind

Delta (0.5-4 Hz) waves are the slowest of all the brainwaves and are present during deep dreamless sleep, deepest meditation & medical coma.

Theta (4-7 Hz) waves denote a state of relaxation, Trance, Dreams (REM sleep), meditation and hypnosis. In theta our senses are withdrawn from the external world and focused on signals coming from within.

Conscious Mind

Alpha (7-14 Hz) waves are present during physical and mental relaxation. They represent the gateway between the outer and the inner world and between the conscious and the unconscious.

Beta (15-30 Hz) waves are associated with waking consciousness and are related to perception, concentration, problem solving and critical reasoning.

Gamma (30-100 Hz) waves are associated with bursts of inspiration, universal love, enhanced thought processing, ecstasy and spiritual emergence.

The brainwave frequency I want to focus on today is theta because it is where powerful healing occurs. This state governs access to the unconscious, where we retain emotional memories that direct our beliefs and behaviours in waking life. When we train ourselves to reach theta through meditation, breathwork and self hypnosis, we can heal our subconscious.  Allowing us to form new neural pathways, change our thought patterns and release emotions. Kinesiology is another useful tool to modify subconscious patterns, especially if the sensory memories are buried deep in early childhood.

Our beautiful brains are sophisticated operating systems,  adaptable and innovative and every passing second is another chance to change.
